Anbudayiar Vannakum,
Our annual Chitra Paruvam Kavady is another one of our most auspicious Murugan prayer festivals in our Tamil calendar which draws a large number of devotees to our temple. Unfortunately due to the current Covid Pandemic, devotees will not be allowed to attend this prayer in person at the temple during the daily Obeyums.
Our Chitra Paruvam Kavady 2021 festival will commence on Saturday, 17/04/21 with the flag hoisting and the main day will be on Monday, 26/04/21. Our Melrose Temple committee has decided to follow the same format as our past Thai Poosam Kavady festival. Guru and the Stannigars will perform the daily Obeyums at the temple during this Kavady fesitval. No devotees will be allowed to attend the prayer at the temple, due to the current Covid pandemic. The temple will livestream the daily obeyum on our ZOOM channel and also via our Facebook website.
Devotees are encouraged to stay at home and pray at home. Devotees are welcome to watch the daily Obeyums on our ZOOM channel or via our Facebook site. The daily prayer will commence @17h30, Saturdays @ 15h00, and Sundays @ 09h00. Main Day Kavady prayer will commence @ 09h00.
Devotees wishing to sponsor milk for the daily abeshegum of our Lord Muruga are encouraged to book on our online booking forms below with their full names and contact details. email bookings will close on 24 April 2021. These devotees will be allocated a day during the prayer festival when their names will be read out to our divine Lord prior to his abeshegum. Please note, due to logistical reasons, no names will be called out on the Main Day.
Devotees are encouraged to observe the 10 day prayer at home, listen to the Skanda Shasthi kavacham daily. Devotees will be allowed to visit the temple during the day, but will not be allowed to stay for the daily Obeyums. Our temple gates will be closed 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the daily prayer.
The Kavady prayers will be live streamed via Zoom for devotees. The temple committee will constantly monitor the situation and should there be any change, the devotees will be informed via whatsapp notification and our website([email protected]).
The donations we receive during our Chitra Poosam kavady is crucial to fund the ongoing costs of the staff and maintenance in the temple. Devotees are humbly requested to contribute to the temple if you are able to and this will be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, the coronavirus is our invisible enemy . We all need to play our part in this world to flatten the curve. Remember to wear your mask properly and regularly , sanitise your hands frequently and minimise socialising. Keep safe.
